Jan Polak is a Czech GM and chess trainer. Already since childhooud he has been keen on the strategical understanding of positions, and on playing endgames. For this reason he decided to write this book, dedicated to the very complicated problem of endgames with a material imbalance.

This book is written in dual-language, English and Czech. It's divided in two parts. Part 1 (92 pages) examines the fight between a rook and two knights, while part 2 (244 pages) deals with the fight between a rook and two bishops. A total of 247 positions is analysed in detail, balancing prose with variations.

Polak treats the subject in a very profound way and the diligent student can certainly learn a lot from this book.
